Additional Information: The mission of St. Joan of Arc Catholic School's educators is that of the apostles in creating a cooperative atmosphere based on the Good News of salvation and the command of Jesus to love and serve one another. The school provides a comprehensive program of education so that each student may develop to his/her full potential as an image of God, as a member of the student body, and as a member of the body of Christ.
St. Joan of Arc builds on the core elementary curriculum of the State of Louisiana and Common Core State Standards and enhances that curriculum with an array of learning experiences and electives. Students participate in a variety of activities ranging from whole group lessons and discussions to small group and independent learning exercises to hands-on activities. Technology is integrated as a tool for introducing lessons, reinforcing skills, and exploratory learning activities. The school, including its preschool program, is fully accredited by State of Louisiana and has earned exemplary status from AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Preschool-2 through second grade utilize a self-contained classroom model with one teacher providing the majority of instruction each day. Third through seventh grade classes are departmentalized which allows for teachers to focus on certain subject areas and provide students the opportunity to experience various teaching methods throughout the day. In an effort to meet the needs of all learners and to actively engage students, SJA focuses on the practice of differentiated instruction within all classrooms. Research suggests that students who are actively engaged, working on topics of interests to them, and being challenged at their level experience higher levels of success.
The administration and faculty are dedicated to helping their students find the tools and techniques that will help them to achieve success. Your child will be challenged, but the ultimate goal is that these initiatives provide a spark for your child to develop a love of learning by meeting his/her needs and encouraging him/her to never stop trying, all while cultivating a desire to live as Christ.
